ONE MORE HELLO COVER FROM ANY 9JA MUSICIAN WILL MAKE ME RUN MAD!!!
Nigerians and our over sabi sabi mentality. I'm sure mots of us by now have either in one way or another listened to the record breaking song HELLO by British songstress ADELE. According to wikepidia.com, the song "Hello" attained international commercial success reaching number one in 28 countries including the United Kingdom, where it became her second UK number-one single, following "Someone like You", and has the largest opening week sales in three years. In the United States, "Hello" debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Adele's fourth number-one on the chart and breaking several records, including becoming the first song with over a million digital sales in a week.
Well, if you ask me, that's no mean feat of achievement for a singer who doesn't need to go all nude like the beyonces and Nickis to hit marks way below what the famed singer has done. But nothing actually pissed me off than the manner in which our Nigerian musicians decided to make it a battle among themselves to render a more compelling rendition of the song, which to me was majorly a shot in their legs because i don't understand how in hell you do a cover to a song like that one and then come out boasting that you did a better version than the original singer and composer.
To mention a few, these are some of our 9ja acts who got into the HELLO COVER mania, they included the wonderful Omawunmi, R&B singer Praize, Chocolate city diva Ruby Gyang, Sojay, EME act Niyola sef decided to do hers after her numerous down the par songs which she had previoulsy done centred mainly on female emancipation and whatever. Oh, SamKlef too did a cover and saxophonist Yemi sax didn't want to be left out of the pack by also jiving our ear drums to his instrumentals of the hit song. If Nigerian acts want to take my advice, which i doubt they would or even get to read this piece ; they should get off Instagram and twitter, get into the studio and cook up some sick music for us to enjoy. Enough of all this copy copy nonsense. I REST MY CASE!
