 Outliers Consulting, a reputable psychology consulting firm based in Lagos State has been leading a Postpartum Depression Awareness Campaign. 

They held the first ever Postpartum Depression Awareness and Support Programme  for Mothers in Nigeria on the 18th of August 2015 at General Hospital Randle,  Surulere Lagos. ,  and have have concluded plans to hold yet another Postpartum Depression Awareness and Support Programme at Gbagada General Hospital come 18th December 2015. According to the Team lead, Onyedikachi Ekwerike, "1 in 6 mothers suffer Postpartum Depression and PPD is the leading cause of SUICIDE among Mothers,  the goal of this program is to enlighten/educate mothers about Postpartum Depression and provide them with Support.  Mothers will also benefit from a FREE Screening exercise. "

We also gathered that the programme is designed to provide support for mothers and families,  it will teach them how to get help when they or someone they know start to notice symptoms of postpartum depression.

"We are confident that this programme will make more mothers aware about postpartum depression and will significantly reduce cases of Postpartum suicide.  It will also help mothers enjoy the joy of motherhood and reassure them that it's okay to not feel okay" Disclosed Ms. Juliet Etu-Ekuma,  the project manager.

The Postpartum Depression Awareness and Support Programme   to be held at Gbagada General Hospital on the 18th of December will have over 150 mothers in attendance.

According to Onyedikachi Ekwerike "Our goal is to take this programme nationwide, and provide support for mothers who suffer Postpartum Depression"

The programme is proudly sponsored by Mothercare Nigeria and Postpartum Support International a US based organization concerned with Maternal Mental Health.
